Playing Omaha High Poker |
|
There are always different versions of how one should play Omaha poker but there are definitely some basics that you need to remember. Often you will need to focus on all the cards available since playing Omaha poker presents multiple opportunities. Professional poker players know that if you don’t take your time, you will often find yourself involved in a hand that will confuse you about whether to play or fold. Most hands containing a pair of aces (rockets), when playing Omaha poker is a good starting hand. After receiving your hole cards, if you see A-A-K-K your in good shape. Before the flop you already have the two best pair. If you flop a set, then it would be the highest possible set and any full house that might appear would also be the highest possible full house. Other Omaha high poker hands involving a pair of aces that should be played are A-A-Q-Q, A-A-J-J, A-A-T-T, and A-A-9-9. Usually you can play any pair along with a pair of aces without getting into trouble. If one of your aces is suited with another one of your cards, this is a hand you should bet out with. K-K and Q-Q combinations are also a good Omaha poker hand to play. Just like a pair of aces, hands containing a pair of kings and a pair of queens are betting hands. The best type of these hands to play will always be supported by a big pair with another big pair that is double suited. If your hand reads Kd-Ks-Qd-Qs, it is a much better hand to play than Kd-Ks-9d-9s. Even though all your flushes would be K high, the former hand could make bigger sets and bigger full houses than the latter hand. Hands that are single suited should also be playable poker hands without getting you in pot trouble. A single pair of kings or queens which is supported by straight cards is also very playable. A hand like Kd-Ks-Qd-Js gives a player the opportunities to hit a big pair, a draw to a big set and a full house. Playing these types of hands in Omaha poker could also give you the second best possible flush draw with two suits and a variety of straights. |
